Benefits of Appalachian Mountain Club Membership

I also joined the AMC last November. This group maintains several lodging sites and organizes a lot of member activities and conservation efforts. We decided to take advantage of the loging at the Mohican Outdoor Center and rented a 3 person cabin. We went up on a Friday night, grilled up some steaks and planned more for our Shenandoah trip. The cabin was rustic but had electricity and heat but no water. Most of their faclities do have water and indoor toilets but we opted for rustic which include a privy.

We packed our backpacking packs with all of the gear we are planning to take on our trip to Shenandoah and hiked off on the Catfish Firetower trail we had done a few weeks earlier. It was a really cold morning, right around 30 degrees. We hiked down rattlesnake swamp trail and came to the intersection with the AT.

We hiked past the fire tower although this time we didn't go up, it was cold and windy up on the summit.
It was about a seven mile round trip with pretty full packs and it served it purpose of giving us a chance to carry the load as practice before our big trip.
