Five Boro Bike Tour

We rode in the 40 mile New York City Five Boro bike tour event on Sunday May 6th. We were a group of 10 riders in a sea of 32,000 riders! We were lucky enough to go off in the first wave at 7:45 AM. In order to keep track of each other during the ride we decorated orange cones and attached them to our helmets.

The tour started in Manhattan near NY's highest building ... the Freedom tower!

The weather was perfect. a little overcast in the morning and mostly sunny in the afternoon. The tour went through Manhattan, Central Park, crossed into the Bronx, down the FDR drive into Queens, over the Brooklyn bridge into Brooklyn and some 36 total miles later around 1:00 PM we crossed the Verrazano-Narrows bridge into Staten Island.

It is an amazing ride, the organizers did a great job especially all the coordination and work with the police to close such major roads and bridges to car traffic for a large part of the day so 32,000 bikes can roll through the streets of New York.
